Either Earthlink or EMBARQ fraudulently added a charge for internet service to my phone bill. Each blamed the other for 'signing' me up without my permission. Embarq would only give a phone number to call to 'cancel' my account.
Upon calling that number you get a robot who requests your Earthlink email account, which I did not have, having never signed up for one. After a 20" hold and a 5" run around by the robot, it hung up on me, saying "I do not understand your request. Goodbye." I had responded that I don't have an account with them, that I wanted to speak to a person/agent, etc". It just kept asking whether I wanted residential or business service, etc/.
I did this 3 times, holding for 20" each time and getting the robot-run-around each time?. On the 3rd try I faked a request for business services and was connected to a real live salesman who reluctantly connected me to a person whose English was difficult to understand, and who inferred I must have signed up, and refused to let me speak to a supervisor and refused to refund my money to me, but finally agreed to refund the charge to embarq/.
I contacted my Senator about this and his aide told me the same thing happened to him when he started embarq phone service, so this is not a one-time 'accident''. They do it so they can keep your money for a certain length of time while paying no interest on it'.
And they make it so difficult to get your money back that some people surely give up before getting it'.
This is corporate collusion and robbery'. We are back in the Robber Baron days of yesteryear. 12964d0
